The village of Taylor began in 1873 as a depot on the Green Bay & Western Railroad. The railroad planned a depot every six miles, and Hixton and Blair had depots. The place was named after "Mr. Taylor", one of the railroad officials. The first depot was built in 1874, with J. T. White as stationmaster.
The land north of the tracks was a farm, but the land south of the tracks was owned by speculators. The land was taken over by the county when the speculators didn't pay the taxes. Early settlers bought the land from the county at an average price of $5 a lot. The first mail was delivered in 1874.
