Homework: Assignments and due dates will be written on the whiteboard in the front of the room. I expect that homework be done when you come to class the day it is due, unless I have told you there will be more work time. If you are not finished with an assignment you should put it aside while we are grading and finish it later. If it is done before the end of the unit you may still receive 75% credit for it. Anytime following the end of the unit you may turn it in for 50% credit. If there are extenuating circumstances I may allow you to turn in the homework late with no point deduction, however you must discuss it with me prior to class.
Cheating: You should do your own work. I do not mind if you work together to get answers, but you should not copy each other’s work. We will often grade homework as a class. In doing so you may be tempted to fill in answers or “forget” to mark answers wrong when grading your friend’s papers. To prevent this I may ask you to turn in corrected papers for me to double check. If I find that people are not correctly marking papers I will consider it to be cheating and both the cheater and the cheatee will receive a score of 0 on that assignment.
Finding Answers Online/Plagiarism from internet sites: In this day of the internet, many unethical people have found ways to “cheat” by using technology. The answer keys for study guides and book questions may be available online if you want to spend the time searching for them, some are free, others require you to purchase the answers. This is still a form of cheating and is unacceptable. Students discovered using any online sources to cheat will be harshly penalized. It is also important that you properly credit any internet sources and put information into your own words when writing papers or completing other projects. Strictly cutting and pasting responses, even partially, is considered plagiarism and is a serious offense. Plagiarism will result in a grade of 0 for the paper or project.
Tests / Quizzes: All tests and quizzes will be listed on the board at least 2 days in advance. Tests are usually a mix of multiple choice, fill in the blank, matching, and short answer questions. For the larger units a review sheet and in class study time may be given. We may have weekly quizzes to review and check your understanding of concepts.
Grades: Grading is based on total points for the semester. If you are failing at the end of first semester you may be removed from the class.
