United States History will allow students to explore the relationships among people, places, and environments. Students will learn about the geography and history of the United States and its influence in the world; examining change and continuity over time in order to develop historical perspective, explain historical relationships, and analyze issues that affect the present and the future. This course will not only serve to further your understanding of historical content, but will also continue to develop sharper reading, writing, primary and secondary source analysis, and critical thinking skills. We will examine the US through a variety of primary and secondary sources where you will often serve as the historian as you interpret historical evidence, determine its relevance, identify point of view, and recognize the strengths and weaknesses that exist within the document. We will be exploring topics from the turn of the 20th Century to the present day as we interpret the current affairs of the US and the impact these have on our country and the various regions of the world.
*Note*: Previously at Blair-Taylor US History was taught at 11th grade; however, in better accordance with the Consortium schools, US History will now be taught at the 9th grade level. There are currently two US History courses (US 9 and US 11) while we work on switching over.
